SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of means and methods for detecting radiation conditions. A method for determining the location of a point source of gamma radiation with an anisotropic field includes the construction of a diagram describing the angular distribution of the gamma radiation dose rate and its approximation by an ellipse. The construction of an ellipse in the coordinate system associated with the center of the circle along which the gamma radiation dose rate was measured makes it possible to determine the reference line passing through the major axis of the ellipse on which the source is located. Conducting exploration along another circle makes it possible to build another ellipse and set a second reference line. In this case, the intersection point of the reference lines will determine the position of the source.

EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of localization of sources with an anisotropic gamma radiation field.
