CONVERSION OF DYNAMIC METADATA TO SUPPORT ALTERNATIVE TONE REPRODUCTION Russian patent published in 2022 - IPC H04N21/235 H04N9/68 H04N5/202

Abstract RU 2771580 C2

FIELD: data processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metadata conversion, in particular to calculation of a set of metadata specific for a color volume conversion (CVT) model, using an existing metadata set, which is special for completely different CVT model. Said technical result is achieved by the fact that a metadata set, which is special for a color volume conversion model, is converted into a metadata set, which is special for another color volume conversion model. For example, initial content metadata for a first color volume conversion model are received. Original metadata define a specific color volume transformation, such as a sigmoid tone mapping curve. Special color volume transformation is displayed in the color volume transformation of the second color volume transformation model, for example, a Bezier tone mapping curve. Display may be a best fit curve or an acceptable approximation. Display results in metadata values are used for a second color volume conversion model (e.g., breakpoints and anchor points of the Bezier curve). Devices configured for the second color volume conversion model can reasonably render the source content in accordance with the received metadata of the source content of the first color volume conversion model.

EFFECT: providing efficient transition from high dynamic range (HDR) formats.
