FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: present disclosure relates, in general, to systems and methods for light transmission and reception and, in particular, to improvement of the safety of systems for light transmission and reception by means of use of unique and identifiable light pulse sequences to prevent substitution of reflected light detected by the system (systems). The system contains a transmitter and a receiver. The first pulse sequence can be encoded using a signature protecting from substitution and transmitted in a laser beam. An echo signal containing the second pulse sequence can be received by the receiver, and the signature protecting from substitution is extracted from the second pulse sequence. If, based on the extraction, the first and the second pulse sequences match, the receiver outputs data of the echo signal. If, based on extraction, the first and the second pulse sequences do not match, the echo signal is ignored. The system can dynamically change the signature protecting from substitution for subsequent pulse sequences. In addition, an element of chance relatively to the previous pulse sequence can be introduced into the first pulse sequence.

EFFECT: improvement of detection of an echo signal in a light detection and ranging system, including weakening an effect of a substitution attack.
