SUBSTANCE: adjustable wrench contains a spring element, as well as a movable sponge, which is made in the form of at least one locking element placed on the guide, while the end part of the locking element protrudes from the axial line of the guide towards the jaw by an amount S exceeding the distance L from the axial line guide to the point that determines the depth of the throat on the working surface of the fixed jaw, and the locking element satisfies the condition of self-braking when a force is applied to it in the direction of increasing the size of the jaw at a distance from L to S from the axial line of the guide: b≤2⋅L⋅μ/k_s, mm, where b is the distance between the extreme points of contact of the locking element with the guide in its longitudinal direction when applying force to the locking element in the direction of increasing the size of the jaw, mm; L is the distance between the axial line of the guide and the point that determines the depth of the jaw on the working surface of the fixed sponge, mm;μ - coefficient of dry friction of rest of the locking element on the guide; k_s - constructive safety factor, the value of which is greater than one, and the spring element is placed on the movable sponge, and the locking element is rotated by means of the spring element relative to the support guide in the direction of opening the jaw.

EFFECT: simplifying the design and improving the manufacturability of the wrench, improving ease of use while ensuring smooth and quick adjustment of the size of the jaw, and also in the absence of play of the movable sponge relative to the guide in working condition.
