FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: following are presented: genetically modified mice carrying a nucleotide sequence that encodes the human EPO protein, as well as methods of identifying an agent that inhibits infection caused by a pathogen that infects human erythroid cells. The invention also relates to a method of obtaining a mouse that expresses the human EPO protein and contains a human hematopoietic system, as well as a method of obtaining a mouse that is infected with a human pathogen that infects human erythroid cells.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to effectively use it as an animal model of human erythropoiesis, as an animal model of human erythrocyte function, and also as an animal model of infection of erythrocytes by human pathogens.
