FIELD: medicine; cardiology.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to assess the functional hemodynamic significance of stenosis of the orifice of the internal carotid artery (ICA) in asymptomatic patients. Patients are analyzed for the absence of strokes or transient ischemic attacks with neurological symptoms during the last 6 months and the presence of 50–69% stenosis of the ICA orifice on Doppler ultrasound (BCS ultrasound). BCS ultrasound is performed at rest and during stress echocardiography with bicycle ergometry and the volumetric blood flow is determined behind the stenosis zone, and with a decrease in the volumetric blood flow behind the stenosis zone by 50% or more according to the BCS ultrasound, stenosis of the mouth of the carotid arteries is assessed as a functional hemodynamically significant stenosis.
EFFECT: method allows to diagnose the functional hemodynamic significance of stenosis of the ICA orifice in asymptomatic patients, taking into account the effect of physical activity on the hemodynamics and kinetics of cerebral vessels in borderline atherosclerotic stenosis by assessing the totality of the most significant indicators.
