SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the creation of efficient thin-film photocathodes for electrochemical, in particular photoactivated reactions of water splitting and hydrogen production. The method for creating a photocathode for producing hydrogen includes placing a glassy carbon substrate in a vacuum chamber, creating a vacuum, heating the substrate, depositing a WO3 film on the substrate by pulsed laser deposition by laser ablation of a metal tungsten target, cooling the substrate, letting sulphur-comprising gas into the vacuum chamber, heating the substrate to temperatures of 300-500°C followed by sulfidation.

EFFECT: increased adhesion properties of the photocatalytic layer to the substrate and corrosion resistance to the electrolyte, as well as stability of the photocathode characteristics.
