FIELD: biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: following is described: a method of identifying an individual American mink that is a carrier of at least one allele that causes the formation of black crystal or white Hedlund fur color, including genotyping the animal for the COPA and MITF-M genes. The nucleotide sequence of DNA fragments of the studied American mink individual, containing the positions of the COPA c.478 and MITF-M c.33+1 genes, is determined. The sequences of the mentioned DNA fragments are compared with the reference sequences of the COPA (ENSNVIT00000001038.1, Ensembl v107) and MITF-M (ENSNVIT00000002796.1, Ensembl v107) genes. The presence and quantity or absence of the single nucleotide substitution COPA c.478 C>T and MITF-M c.33+1 G>A in the nucleotide sequence of the mentioned DNA fragments is determined. The genotype of the American mink under study is determined by mutations that cause the development of black crystal and white Hedlund fur colors. Also the use of this method for the selection of American mink individuals that are carriers of at least one allele that causes the formation of black crystal or white Hedlund fur color, among the existing stock of farm minks is presented.

EFFECT: invention expands the arsenal of means for determining the colors of minks.
