SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of inspecting an aerosol-generating article for manufacturing defects, comprising recording several 2-dimensional profiles of the surface of the aerosol-generating article while rotating the aerosol-generating article; combining several surface profiles recorded at different angles of rotation to obtain 3-dimensional profile of the surface; calculating the maximum difference in height of said 3-dimensional surface profile; and rejecting the aerosol generating article if the maximum difference in height of its 3-dimensional surface profile is higher than the threshold value.
EFFECT: invention increases accuracy when detecting multiple defects.
