FIELD: animal breeding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to animal breeding, in particular to horse breeding, and can be used for selection of stallions with high quality of sperm. Method for assessing stallion sperm quality by concentration of glutathione peroxidase in spermoplasm involves sperm sampling, obtaining spermoplasm, determination of the concentration of glutathione peroxidase in it, comparison of its value with the maximum permissible level of concentration of glutathione peroxidase in spermoplasm of stallions, calculated by us and found to be equal to 1.01 ng/ml. If the concentration of glutathione peroxidase in spermoplasm is higher than 1.01 ng/ml, the stallion should be referred to the group with high sperm quality, and if the concentration of glutathione peroxidase in spermoplasm is lower than 1.01 ng/ml, respectively, to the group with low sperm quality.
EFFECT: invention provides evaluation of stallion sperm quality depending on glutathione peroxidase concentration without using sperm evaluation.
