FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, and more specifically to a method for thermal treatment of copper workpieces in a protective medium. Method of annealing copper workpieces of mould tubes includes placing a basket with copper workpieces in the inner cavity of the furnace, filling the inner cavity of the furnace with a protective medium, furnace and copper workpieces are heated to annealing temperature, held at annealing temperature, then removed from the furnace and immersed in water for cooling. Here natural gas is used as protective medium and air displacement means, which is ignited at the outlet of the lower part of the inner cavity of the furnace, the supply of natural gas is reduced when stable combustion is achieved and is not turned off during the entire period of annealing, wherein gas is fed into furnace inner cavity top in volume making not over 4.28 times of inner cavity volume.
EFFECT: improving the quality of annealing of copper workpieces of mould tubes of continuous metal casting machines by eliminating oxidation of their surface.
