FIELD: various technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to complex ion-plasma treatment of high-speed steel cutting tools. Said method involves cleaning, heating of surface of said tool to saturation temperature of high-speed steel and ion nitriding in nitrogen-containing gas. Ion nitriding is carried out at temperature of 450–480°C and pressure of 1·10-3–1·10-2 Pa. A multilayer composite coating of the TiAl-TiAlN system consisting of an adhesive layer of Ti, a transition layer of TiAl and a functional layer of TiAlN is then applied in a single process cycle.
EFFECT: higher adhesion of coating and increased wear resistance of cutting tool surface.
