FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to ophthalmology, and aims at differential diagnosis of low-pigmented melanoma and progressive iris nevus. Spectral optical coherence tomography with Enhanced Depth Imaging (SOCT-EDI) is performed. If observing a homogeneous hyperreflective tumour structure with a shadow effect and the absence of visualization of the posterior leaf of the iris, the diagnosis of weakly pigmented iris melanoma is established. If observing a heterogeneous non-uniformly reflective tumour structure without a shadow effect with complete visualization of a posterior iris leaf, a progressive iris nevus is diagnosed.

EFFECT: method provides more accurate diagnosis of melanoma and progressive iris nevus with the possibility of developing an adequate tactics of organ-preserving treatment taking into account the benign or malignant nature of the tumour due to SOCT-EDI.
