FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of felt material based on silicon carbide, which can be used as a reinforcing component for producing composite materials and as a filter for corrosive liquids and gases. Method of producing felt material involves placing a graphite crucible containing carbon felt, which is placed in the graphite crucible in the form of a roll, into a vacuum batch furnace. Silicon powder is poured onto crucible bottom and, on top, onto rolled felt. Preliminary heat treatment is performed in vacuum for 5 hours at temperature 100 °C and additional heat treatment in a muffle furnace for 4 hours at temperature 400 °C. Synthesis is carried out in vacuum 1×10-5 mbar to temperature 700 °C with heating rate 5 °C/min Synthesis is then continued in an argon atmosphere at excess pressure of 0.2 atm at temperature of 1500 °C with heating rate 10 °C/min and holding at said temperature for 60 minutes. Then, felt surface is cooled and processed by compressed air to remove powder.
EFFECT: invention simplifies the felt material synthesis technique and reduces the amount of silicon used.
