FIELD: metallurgy of ferrous metals. SUBSTANCE: protective layer of lining is made of roasted magnesite (fraction 3-6 mm) and synthetic corundum (fraction 1-3 mm) taken at ratio, wt.-%: magnesite 18-28, and synthetic corundum 72-82. Method provides to obtain synthetic slags in arc furnace with magnesite lining. EFFECT: enhanced refining slag capability and lining stability. 1 tbl
