FIELD: agriculture, in particular, selection. SUBSTANCE: method involves providing germination of seeds for three weeks in thermostat at temperature of 25 C on moistened filtering paper at illumination intensity of 7,000 lux during 12 hours per day; providing freezing-through of plants at temperatures ranging from 0 to -2 C during first day after germination and at temperature ranging from -5 to -7 C during second day after germination; determining hydrolytic activity of ferment - fructofuranosidase; calculating plant frost resistance indexes, which are expressed by ratio of hydrolytic activity of ferment in plant third leaf after freezing-through to initial activity, and discriminating three resistance groups: frost resistant group (resistance index of at least 3.00), average frost resistance group (1.51-3.00) and low frost resistance group (1.5 and less). Standard sorts classifiers are used for performing comparative evaluation of frost resistance. EFFECT: intensified process of obtaining evaluation results, reduced usage of selection material and increased objectivity of evaluation process. 1 tbl
