FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method includes synthesis of SiO₂ sol, depositing SiO₂ particles on silicate glass and heat treatment of the coated glass. An amorphous SiO₂ based coating is applied by immersing silicate glass into SiO₂ sol synthesised via hydrolysis of tetraethoxysilane using acetic acid (CH₃COOH) as a synthesis reaction catalyst in a medium of ethyl alcohol (C₂H₅OH) in molar ratio of components tetraethoxysilane/H₂O/C₂H₅OH/CH₃COOH=0.05-0.25/0.95-2/2-16/0.05-0.25. The glass is drawn from the silicon dioxide sol at a controlled rate of 50 to 250 mm/min, followed by isothermal holding of the glass at a temperature of 500±10 to 600±10°C for 15±5 min.
