FIELD: engine devices and pumps.

SUBSTANCE: exhaust emission control system of an internal combustion engine includes a filter, a temperature increase device, a differential pressure measuring device and an electronic control unit. The filter includes the first region as a part of the filter and the second region as the other part of the filter. The electronic control unit is configured to calculate the first deposited amount so that the calculated deposited quantity becomes larger as the ratio of the absolute value of the first differential pressure decrease amount to the duration of the first oxidation period becomes greater. The electronic control unit is configured to calculate the amount of solid particle substance precipitated in the second region based on the duration of the second oxidation period and the second differential pressure decrease value.
