SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a smoking article. Smoking article comprises a combustible heat source having a front portion and a rear portion; an aerosol-forming substrate downstream of the rear portion of the combustible heat source; and a wrapper circumscribing the front portion and the rear portion of the combustible heat source, wherein the wrapper is in contact with the rear portion of the combustible heat source and wherein all or part of the front portion of the combustible heat source has a reduced diameter compared to the rear portion of the combustible heat source, so that the wrapper is radially spaced from all or part of the front portion of the combustible heat source by an air gap of at least about 0.5 mm.
EFFECT: technical result of the invention is providing a smoking article having a reduced surface temperature near the heat source and an acceptable appearance and enabling a more reliable assembly.
