FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measuring techniques, in particular to radio wave methods for measuring the vehicle ground speed using the Doppler effect for electromagnetic waves. Method for measuring distance traveled consists in the fact that electromagnetic waves with wavelength λ0 emitted forward at an angle α in direction of vehicle movement, receiving reflected from road surface electromagnetic waves, then these waves are mixed in the first mixer with part of emitted waves and the first differential frequency signal is extracted. In addition, reflected waves are transmitted through a delay line with length of a quarter wavelength of the electromagnetic oscillation, mixing them at the second mixer with part of emitted waves and separating the second differential frequency signal, at coincidence of these signals, pulses are generated, by the number of these pulses n the traversed path is calculated by formula L=nλ0/2cos(α).

EFFECT: high accuracy of measuring the distance traveled by a vehicle.
