FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of X-ray equipment, in particular, to high-brightness x-ray sources with a liquid metal target. Liquid metal target (6) is a layer of molten metal formed by centrifugal force on surface (8) of annular chute (9) of rotating anode assembly (10), which faces surface axis (7). Method of generating X-rays involves electron bombardment of liquid metal target (6), material of which relates to group Sn, Li, In, Ga, Pb, Bi, Zn and their alloys, and output of X-ray beam through outlet opening (2) of vacuum chamber (1). Preferably, the rotating anode assembly is cooled by the flow of liquid heat carrier (20), the size of focal spot (4) on the target is less than 50 mcm, and the linear speed of target (6) is more than 80 m/s. In versions of the invention, outlet opening (2) is protected against contaminants using a replaceable membrane made from carbon nanotubes.
EFFECT: simplification of system for formation of liquid metal target, optimization of target material, increase of its speed, elimination of contamination of outlet window, increase in brightness, service life and ease of operation of X-ray source.
