SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of functionally separated base stations with separate central and distributed units. A method of operation of a distributed unit (DU) node (DU) of a radio access network, wherein the DU node (7000) is connected to the central unit (CU) node (7000) via the F1 interface, and the DU node performs an establishment procedure with the CU node via the F1 interface for a radio resource control (RRC) connection ) with respect to a wireless device (UE), the method comprising transmitting (8001) an establishment request message to the CU, the establishment request message including an indication of the most recent RRC version supported by the DU, receiving (8003 ) a setup response message from the CU, the message including an indication of the RRC version supported by the CU and the UE, establishing an RRC connection with the UE using the RRC version indicated in the setup response message.
EFFECT: invention reduces the risk of RRC misconfiguration, especially when the central unit (gNB core) and one or more distributed nodes support different RRC versions.
