FIELD: optics.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a group of inventions: material of secondary coating for optical fiber, optical fiber, and a method for the manufacture of optical fiber. Material of secondary coating contains a resin composition for coating optical fiber. The resin composition contains base resin containing oligourethane(meth)acrylate, monomer, and a photopolymerization initiator; and surface-modified inorganic oxide particles having a functional group cured with ultraviolet radiation. A content of surface-modified inorganic oxide particles is 1-60 wt.% per the total amount of the resin composition. A surface modification value relatively to surface-modified inorganic oxide particles is 0.15-2.5 mg/m2. The surface modification value is calculated by a specific area of surface-modified inorganic oxide particles and a relative content of an organic component obtained from the functional group cured by ultraviolet radiation. The functional group is a methacryloyl group. This optical fiber contains fiberglass containing a core and a shell; a primary resin layer contacting with fiberglass and coating fiberglass; and a secondary resin layer coating the primary resin layer. The secondary resin layer contains a cured product of the resin composition. The method for the manufacture of optical fiber includes a stage of application, at which material of secondary coating for optical fiber, containing a resin composition, is applied to an outer periphery of fiberglass containing a core and a shell; and a stage of curing, at which the resin composition is cured by irradiation with ultraviolet beams after the stage of application.
EFFECT: creation of a resin composition having not only a high Young modulus necessary for a secondary resin layer, but also a good capability of application, allowing for formation of a viscous resin layer; and optical fiber containing a secondary resin layer formed of the resin composition.
