FIELD: synthesis of nanomaterials.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of nanomaterials, more specifically to fluorescent nanomaterials, or rather to carbon quantum dots for various applications—in the field of biomedicine, biotechnology, diagnostics, therapy, detection of various substances, etc. In particular, the invention relates to a method for synthesis of functional carbon quantum dots, which includes the following steps: i) solution of citric acid and urea is autoclaved at temperature of 150–300 degrees Celsius, ii) obtained carbon quantum dots are washed. Method is characterized by that it further includes the following steps: iii) mixing washed carbon quantum dots with a polymer solution, iv) heating the obtained mixture to 50–99 degrees Celsius, v) increasing the ionic strength of the obtained solution for depositing said polymer on the surface of carbon quantum dots.
EFFECT: faster method of synthesis of functional (functionalised) carbon quantum dots, which enables to achieve their functionalisation with various biopolymers (including macromolecules) in milder conditions and which enables them to be easily purified from unbound biopolymer molecules.
