FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 3,4-dimethyl-1-phenylpyrrole by catalytic heterocyclisation of aniline and 1,2-propanediol. Method is characterized by that 3,4-dimethyl-1-phenylpyrrole is obtained by reacting aniline with 1,2-propanediol in the presence of granular zeolite ZSM-5h in H-form with a hierarchical porous structure in autoclave at 240-270 °C, molar ratio of aniline : 1,2-propanediol = 1:2-5, in presence of 5-20 wt.% catalyst H-ZSM-5h for 6-12 hours in benzene.
EFFECT: proposed method increases output of 3,4-dimethyl-1-phenylpyrrole and simplifies its synthesis.
